Free Annual Credit Report Video

The official website designated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to obtain free credit reports is www.annualcreditreport.com.

In response to television advertisements that offer consumers access to a free credit report and free credit score, the FTC has produced its own video about how to get your free annual credit report from the official site.

The FTC video tries to inform consumers that offers of a free credit report from sites other than www.annualcreditreport.com will normally incur fees for services packaged with the free offer unless the additional services are cancelled within a short trial period.

The most common service offered by the free credit report sites is credit monitoring, which can be cancelled if you do not wish to continue with the service. So for example, if you do not want a subscription to credit monitoring services, you must contact the service provider and just cancel the service.

However, to simply get free annual credit report from each of the 3 national credit reporting agencies Experian, Equifax and Trans Union,  the FTC encourages consumers to just go directly to www.annualcreditreport.com to get their reports.  There are instructions on the annual credit report site to get your report online, by mail or to order over the phone.
